General Assistant to Harbour Master in all matters pertaining to the Harbour Department. He should be a fully qualified navigating officer and have neld either a commission in the Royal Navy or Royal Naval Reserve. He is responsible for the observance of the Harbour Regulations, Dangerous Goods Anchorages and Quarantine Anchorages and for the general control of native cratt in the Shelters and the waters of the Colony. He supervises the general routine of the Boarding Officers and Junk Inspectors. He is required to arrange for the collection and tabulation of shipping returne, te carry out inspections of lighthouses and the various Harbour Out-stations, to examine all moorings raised and to survey and check the position of buoys. He is in charge of the inspection of all Government launches and personnel and arranges for their slipping and repairs. He is Chairman of the Pilotage Board and conducts enquiries irto all small craft collisions and accidents. He arranges the Board of Trade examinations and examinations for local coxswains, He is in addition lesistant Superintendent of Water Police and examines European and native Police at the water Police Stations in seamanship and Port Regulations,
£700 to £900 per annum by arrmal increments of £20. The salary is payable ir llarg in accordance with Government Regulations,
Rented Quarters or rent allowance in accordance with Government Regulations. ▲ rent or 6% of the officer'silary is charged for unturnished quarters (plus 1% for heavy furniture it supplied) and it quarters are not available, an officer is on certain conditione permitted to rent a house himself paying of of salary and the remainder
